Three people, including a woman, were arrested after the intervention of Delhi Commission for Women for forcing a 17-year-old girl into marriage and prostitution.
What’s astonishing is that the daughter of the accused woman saved the minor girl. The accused woman’s daughter reached the DCW office with an NGO representative to register a complaint with the commission. After listening to the girl, the commission sent a team with her to get an FIR registered at the concerned police station. An FIR was registered and three people were arrested in this case. It later came to light that the rescued girl was one month pregnant.
During interrogation, the rescued girl told the team members of DCW that she had arrived at New Delhi Railway Station a few days ago from Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh looking for a job. She said that her parents were deceased and her little brother suffers from epileptic seizures. The girl said that she wanted to find a job in order to get treatment for her brother. She added that she met the accused woman and one other man when she reached New Delhi Railway Station. They assured her of a job and took her with them.
She was kept at Delhi’s Maujpur area where she was forced into prostitution. A few days later, she was forcefully married to a 40-year-old middle-aged man from Chandni Chowk.
The accused woman’s daughter, who herself is a minor, was aware of these facts and showed extraordinary courage in saving the minor. The accused woman’s daughter, in order to save the minor girl, reached the house in Chandni Chowk where the girl was being married off. With the help of an NGO, she rescued the minor girl and reac-hed the committee office. The DCW took immediate action and got an FIR registered at the Zafarabad police station. The police arrested three persons.
