The girl had gone missing on Tuesday afternoon. Her body was found inside a sack on a street near her school, a few lanes from her home. DCP (northeast) A.K. Singla said prima facie there were no signs of any sexual assault, but the police is waiting for the autopsy report before concluding anything.
The girl lived with her parents and a younger sister in New Usmanpur’s Gautampuri area. Her fat-her owns a couple of vehicles and also drives them.
The girl was enrolled as a Class 6 student at a local government school. On Tuesday, she had returned home from school around 1 pm.
“Soon after she reached home, I gave her Rs 100 and asked her to get some household items from a shop nearby. She never returned after that. The owner of the shop, I sent her to, said my daughter did not visit him,” the girl’s father said.
When the girl did not return home for almost half-an-hour, her relatives launched a search for her in the neighbourhood. When that yielded no results, they approached the police who joined the search.
It was around 7 am on Wednesday that a sanitation worker, sweeping the street outside her school, found a sack lying near an electric police.
“The worker found the sack suspicious as it was heavy. He then decided to untie it and check its contents,” said Salim, a youth in the neighbourhood. The girl’s body was found inside the sack.
“The girl was in her school uniform and her hands and legs were tied. There were no external injuries on her body,” said Saim, who claimed to be an eyewitness. The girl’s fat-her, meanwhile, was walking nearby and the commotion drew his attention. He checked on the corpse to find it was his daughter’s.
“I suspect my sister-in-law’s role in the murder. We have been involved in a property dispute and she has forcibly occupied a part of my house after her husband’s death,” the victim’s father said.
The DCP said the woman has been detained and is being questioned, but it was too early to confirm or deny her role in the murder.
