Girl commits suicide inside government school
A 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at a government school in Northeast Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar area on Saturday.
The incident was reported around 12 noon by the school authorities, after they rushed the girl, a Class 10 student to hospital. However, no suicide note was recovered by the police, said DCP (Northeast) Veenu Bansal.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl asked her teacher for permission to go to the washroom around 10.30 am and when she did not return for a long time, another student was sent to check on her, who raised an alarm, said the police.
The girl’s body was handed over to her relatives after post-mortem examination. Only the autopsy report can tell what substance she had allegedly consumed, said the police.
The police have questioned several classmates, teachers and parents of the deceased girl, but the motive behind the extreme step hasn’t been ascertained yet. The police are also checking her call details and other input crucial to the probe.
Some relatives had claimed that the mother of the girl had scolded her on Friday night for some reasons, after which her behaviour changed. She didn’t talk much with anyone in the school on Saturday. Investigation of the case is underway, the police added.
In a related incident, a 28-year-old private tutor has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two girls, aged six and seven years, in Northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar.
The accused, identified as Rajkumar, is married and has a five-year-old son. He has a private coaching centre at his residence, the police said on Saturday. The incident came to light on Friday when parents of both the girls, who used to take coaching classes from Rajkumar, approached the police and two separate cases were registered. “In both cases, the accused has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. He was arrested immediately,” DCP (Northwest) Vijay Singh said. According to the police, it was the six-year-old girl who first narrated her ordeal to her mother.
The woman immediately informed her husband and went to the house of their neighbours, whose daughter also went to the same coaching centre with the six-year-old.
When the neighbour enquired whether their daughter knew anything about the incident, the seven-year-old girl broke down and said that she too was a victim. The accused had been allegedly sexually assaulting the two for around the past 15 days, said an official. Parents of both the girls approached the police together. The police are now verifying whether the accused had assaulted other students too, the official added.
“The accused also threatened him to not to report the matter either to his parents or the school authorities,” he said.Parents of the victim and accused as well as school authorities have been asked to join the probe, the officer said.
