A 20-year-old man facing trial in a molestation case was shot by bike-borne assailants outside Southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Court gate on Wednesday. The police identified the victim as Ankit Dagar. One fruit juice vendor has also sustained injuries in the incident. A police source privy to the investigation said that the brother of the girl whom Dagar had allegedly molested and was facing trial in the court for this matter, shot Dagar in a fit of rage after an altercation with him inside the court premises. The incident took place around 12.30 pm right opposite gate number 3 of the court after the hearing got over. Post the hearing, Ankit went out to eat lunch. He was drinking juice from a vendor nearby when one of the two bike-borne men came and fired, the police said. The bullet pierced Dagar’s chest and also hit the juice vendor standing behind. Doctors said that Ankit is stable, added the police. Dagar’s father Yashwir said: “After the hearing got over, me and my son had a heated argument with the girl’s (the complainant) family regarding the case as my son is innocent. While I was still inside the court complex, Ankit had gone out to eat. I kept calling him to come back. Within a few minutes, I saw him running towards the gate of the court, where he collapsed.”
“The problem started when the girl filed a complaint against Dagar. Both Ankit and the girl were in a relationship and are residents of Malikpur village. She later rejected his marriage proposal and shifted to Kheda Gaon after getting married to another man. Dagar allegedly kept harassing her,” said the source.
A security guard present at the gate quickly took Ankit in the QRT van to the DDU Hospital.
