A Bajrang Dal activist has filed a fresh sedition case against JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar in Bulandshahr district for allegedly disrespecting the Indian Army.

A Bajrang Dal activist has filed a fresh sedition case against JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar in Bulandshahr district for allegedly disrespecting the Indian Army.

The Bulandshahr session court will take up the matter for hearing on March 28.

Hemant Singh, the right-wing activist who filed the plea, has said in his petition that the remarks were highly-insensitive and offensive.

The case relates to the speech that Mr Kumar made on March 8 on International Women’s Day in which he allegedly claimed that “our soldiers rape women and commit atrocities in Kashmir and the Northeast”.

Addressing students at a Women’s Day march, Mr Kumar had said, “No matter how much you try to stop us, we will speak up against human rights violations. We will raise our voice against AFSPA. While we have a lot of respect for our soldiers, we will still talk about the fact that in Kashmir women are raped by security personnel.”

The activist told local reporters that the UP police initially refused to register his complaint and he had to approach the court for initiating action against Mr Kumar.

The petitioner has also submitted video clips of Kanhaiya making the objectionable “false statements”. A Delhi court granted him interim bail for six months on the condition that he would cooperate with the police in the probe against him.
