Former JNU professor returns his award via speed post
The former president of the JNU Teachers’ Association, Prof. Chaman Lal, has returned an award to Union HRD ministry on Friday, saying that he had never seen such a brutal assault on JNU.
Prof. Lal returned his award to the Union HRD ministry using Speed Post. He said the officials at the Central Hindi Directorate had refused to take back the award on Wednesday. “After officials refused to take back the award, I returned it to the HRD ministry through Speed Post. I have returned the award containing a citation and '50,000 cash conferred on me by Central Hindi Directorate, Union HRD ministry, in the year 2003 by then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and signed by the then Union HRD minister, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, for ‘non-Hindi speaking area Hindi writer,’” he said.
Explaining the reason for returning the award through Speed Post, Prof. Lal said, “The officials at the Central Hindi Directorate are so terrorised that they declined to accept it.”
