FIR filed against ex-MP for misconduct
The Delhi police filed an FIR against former Congress MP Mahabal Mishra on Saturday for allegedly “misbehaving” with women when he intervened in a fight between two groups in southwest Delhi’s Dabri area over installation of a mobile tower, even as he denied the charge.
According to police, the incident took place on Saturday evening when a fight broke out between the families of Mr Mishra’s relatives and their neighbours, who live in Vaishali locality in Dabri area. The fight erupted over the installation of a mobile tower on the terrace of the property of one of the families, to which the other party objected and allegedly thrashed the labourers working on the fixture, the police said.
Mr Mishra was called by his daughter to intervene in the matter. The police was also informed and a team rushed there. “When the police reached the spot, a woman there, who was later joined by a few others, alleged that Mr Mishra misbehaved with them.”
“The matter is being investigated and several persons, including Mr Mishra, have been booked for several cognisable offences. Arrests are likely,” a senior police official said.
“Similar allegations were levelled against the other party by Mr Mishra’s relatives too,” the senior official said. Mr Mishra and others were later booked in cases after the police registered cross FIRs under sections of criminal assault, wrongful restraint, house trespass and outraging the modesty of women on the complaints by both the parties, a senior police official said.
Denying allegations of misbehaviour with the women, Mr Mishra said, “It was I who called up the police to report the matter. I did not confront any woman here and such allegations are entirely baseless.”
