An FIR has been lodged against Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Sangam Vihar, Dinesh Mohaniya, after locals alleged that he and his supporters had roughed them up in his office and misbehaved with women when they went to complain about irregular water supply.

Some residents of Sangam Vihar in South Delhi had on Wednesday visited Mr Mohaniya’s office-cum-residence to complain about irregular water supply. They alleged that their complaints were met with abuses by the AAP MLA and his supporters.

The case has been registered under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code at the Neb Sarai police station.

“We had made our way to Mr Mohaniya’s office to get the water problem in our area resolved, after having shuttled from one office to another for the last five months. When we went there, the MLA started abusing me and called me names. The workers at his office came and started misbehaving with me. They held me by the collar of my blouse and threatened to kill (me),” said the complainant.

“When he abused and pushed us, we also did the same. Are we here to be beaten up There is a severe water issue here. We went there only to ask for water and not for money,” she added.

The complainant said that everyone is equal before everyone and, therefore, legal action should be taken against the AAP MLA.

However, Mr Mohaniya, who is also the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, rubbished the allegations, saying they are all baseless. “There is no video or photographic pr-oof to back this allegation. It is an attempt to defame me,” Mr Mohaniya said.
