The Delhi police has busted a counterfeit coin racket arresting two of its members and recovering coins of Rs 5 and Rs 10 denomination worthRs 5.76 lakh during raids at the hideouts of the gang in Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana and an illegal mint located in Ambala.
The accused, Gulshan Kumar (58) and his nep-hew Sachin (35), residents of Hissar in Haryana, were arrested by a team of special cell from Shiv Vihar, Nilothi Extension, at around 10 pm.
Search of the duo led to recovery of four dyes for making counterfeit coins of the denomination of Rs 5, 113 fake coins of Rs 5, 20 packets of counterfeit Ind-ian coins, each containing 100 coins totaling Rs 20,000 were seized, said Sanjiv Yadav, DCP (special cell).
Last week, the police had unearthed an illegal mint making coins of Rs 5 and Rs 10 denominations in Outer Delhi’s Bawana and recovered over one lakh counterfeit coints.
Special cell was following reports of counterfeit coins being circulated in malls and prominent markets in Delhi and NCR area and stumbled upon the names of Gulshan and Sachin as main suppliers who are based at Shiv Vi-har of Nilothi Extension in Delhi, said the officer.
After the arrest of the duo, the special team raided their rented flat in Vijay Laxmi Park Shiv Vihar and counterfeit coins worth Rs 3,57,565 were recovered. Another raid at their mint in Saha Industrial Area Ambala, Haryana, led to recovery of counterfeit coins worth Rs 82,030 as well as a poly sealer machine, portable bag closer and sewing machine from there.
In yet another raid at their hideout in Rajas-than, counterfeit coins worth Rs 1.37 lakhs were recovered.
