DTC plans budget hotels at depots to earn revenue
The Delhi Transport Corporation will introduce multi-level parking lots and budget hotels at its depots to earn extra revenue.
The Delhi Transport Corporation will introduce multi-level parking lots and budget hotels at its depots to earn extra revenue. The Public Works Department (PWD) will develop multi-level parking lots at 31 DTC depots, the government said in the Delhi Assembly last week. According to a DTC official, the PWD has asked the Corporation to identify 4-5 depots where multi-level parking lots can be built as part of a pilot project. The cash-strapped DTC’s first multi-level parking facility is coming up at Seemapuri depot.
Once these parking lots are in operation, the Corporation will be able to make money by collecting parking fee from private vehicle owners. The government is also considering construction of budget hotels at major bus depots.
According to the government, the DTC posted a loss of Rs 3,506.96 crore in the last fiscal, while the losses in 2014-15 and 2013-14 were Rs 2 ,917.76 crore and Rs 1,363.74 crore, respectively. In reply to a legislator’s question on burgeoning losses in the Delhi Assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party government had claimed that it is looking to generate revenue from non-traffic activities. Current practice of advertisements through buses, time-keeping booths, unipoles and wall wraps are being re-assessed in order to boost revenue. In order to increase revenue from ticket sales, the Corporation buses will make more trips during evenings.
