DPCC gears up for municipal bypolls

After facing debacle in the recent Assembly elections in Delhi, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee is making relentless effort to win the upcoming municipal corporation bypolls. The party plans to put its former MPs, MLAs and councillors to work to ensure its victory.

Apart from taking help of its veterans, the Delhi Congress has also created around 10 new wings such as RTI Congress, SC/ST Congress, South Indian Congress, Trader Congress and Parvartiya Congress to connect with common people. All the new wings have been created by Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken in a bid to strengthen the party. DPCC spokesperson Chhatar Singh said that the bypolls were round the corner in 13 municipal wards and his party did not want to lose a single seat.

“We are reaching out to Delhiites through our new wings. We are gearing up for the upcoming bypolls. Our workers will visit each polling booth five times to ensure our victory. Our former MPs and MLAs have been asked to pull up their socks,” he said.

The Delhi Congress also plans to hold a door-to-door campaign to highlight shortfalls and the failures of the AAP and Modi governments.

“It has happened for the first time in history that MCD employees had to go on strike four times as they were not given their salaries on time. Delhiites had to suffer a lot due to their strikes. The AAP and the BJP both are responsible for this. These bypolls should have been held a year back, but (chief minister Arvind) Kejriwal deliberately delayed them, as he feared defeat. Mr Kejriwal has only succeeded in fooling the common people. He did not introduce even a single new project and spent around '526 crore on publicity,” Mr Singh claimed, adding that after winning the municipal bypolls the Congress will make preparations to win the next year’s MCD elections.
