Donations steady despite tumult in AAP

The crisis in the Aam Aadmi Party may have dented its image but it does not seem to have impacted the donations received by the party as it has received over Rs 1 crore within a month of assuming power in the national capital. The party had received donations amounting to a little over Rs 80 lakh after getting a drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls.

“After the Lok Sabha debacle, people had lost faith in our party. But after the stupendous victory in the Assembly polls, people are wholeheartedly supporting us,” a senior office-bearer of the party, who was involved in the fundraising campaigns during the elections, said.

However, the donations that hit a peak just before the election day came down considerably after its completion. The AAP had received Rs 12 crore and a little over Rs 5 crore in January and February respectively during the campaign period.

The party had launched several unique initiatives, including “I Fund Honest Party” challenge in line with the ice-bucket challenge and also hosted a series of fundraising tea parties and dinners.

According to the AAP Trends on the party’s website, while the post-Assembly polls figure is a summation of funds received between February 8 and March 7, the post-Lok Sabha polls figure takes into account the money donated between May 17 and June 16, 2014.
