DJB tanker mows down 34-year-old, driver held

A 34-year-old man was knocked down by a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) tanker in Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Wednesday morning.

A 34-year-old man was knocked down by a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) tanker in Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Wednesday morning.

The police said the accused managed to flee from the spot after the accident, but he was arrested by the police after a few hours.

According to a senior police official, the deceased, identified as Tun Tun Rao, was on his bike and was going from his home in Mubarakpur to his office in Kirari when the incident happened at around 8 am.

The accused driver, identified as Vinod Kumar (34), was overspeeding and without noticing the victim, rammed into him.

Sensing trouble, the accused fled from the spot. Locals gathered at the place of incident and made a call to the police.

“A police team rushed to the spot and took the victim to the nearby hospital, where the doctors tried a lot to resuscitate him, but later declared him dead,” said the police official, adding, “The family members of the deceased were informed and his body was sent for a post-mortem.”

Meanwhile, the police registered a case under Section 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 304A( culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC against the accused at the Aman Vihar Police station.
