The Delhi government is all set to tighten the noose around dhaba owners who serve liquor in their premises. The Delhi government’s excise department has directed the dhabas to put up signboards clearly stating that drinking is not allowed within their premises, failing which they will be slapped with a penalty of Rs10,000. A senior official said the move comes after a large number of people registered their complaints about dhabas serving liquor within their premises in violation of the rules.
“All the dhabawalas are directed to put up a signboard in their premises at a point where the same will easily be visible to all the customers. The signboard should contain the words — “Drinking of liquor is not permitted in the premises,” said the official. Any violation will attract a fine of Rs10,000.
The department had recently taken action against marriage and banquet halls for serving Haryana-made liquor.
