Delhiites are geared up for the next phase of odd-even car rationing formula being launched by the Delhi government from Friday till the end of the month in order to curb the rising pollution level in the city.
“The first phase of odd-even helped in reducing the traffic on roads which was one of the best things. And since I drive my own vehicle, which is even numbered, I will use the Metro on alternate days. Hope this time even the pollution level comes down,” Prakrati Thakur, a resident of North Delhi, said.
“Since me and my friend work at the same office, we have decided to travel by his car on odd days and my bike on even days. This way, we will be able to beat the disadvantages of the odd-even scheme,” said Manas Chakrabarty, a salaryman.
However, some people with CNG-installed vehicles are not bothered by the odd-even scheme. Ankur Nayar, whose wife works in a private firm, said, “Since we own a CNG installed car, the odd-even policy won’t affect us. But its just that I will have to pick and drop her from office as I feel women are still not safe in Delhi and I can’t rely on cabs or buses.”
There are some who are happy that even this time women are exempt from the odd-even policy. Niharika Mehta, a resident of Moti Bagh, said, “I was always in favour of exemption of women in the odd-even scheme because as a woman I would feel unsafe to travel in a public bus or carpool during the evenings.”
Sabreen Kaur, mother of a private school student, said, “I am relaxed that school vehicles are exempted from the odd-even scheme. Since he goes to school through school car-pooling I don’t have to worry about his mode of transportation.”
