Delhi University new academic session set to begin from Wednesday

With admissions under the fourth cut-off list on Monday over, the Delhi University will begin with the new academic session 2016-17 from Wednesday.

With admissions under the fourth cut-off list on Monday over, the Delhi University will begin with the new academic session 2016-17 from Wednesday. The colleges will also witness admissions under the fifth cut off list on the same day.

Several colleges that have been trying to fill up seats for courses like B.Com., Economics and English Honours under the fourth list, are likely to re-open them for the fifth list due to continuous withdrawals.

“Admissions and cancellations are taking place simultaneously. For instance, we had already admitted 69 students for 62 seats in Economics Honours till the second cut-off. But due to 43 withdrawals we re-opened it in the fourth list as we are now left with only 26 students. Once the fee has been paid on Tuesday, we will be able to tell the exact status. But 40 per cent chances are that the fifth cut-off will be declared,” said Dr Indrajit Dagar, principal, College of Vocational Studies.

Gyanatosh Jha, principal ARSD College, said, “We confirmed and cancelled about 100 admissions at the same time within two days. There will be definitely a fifth cut off for science courses. We cancelled a large number of admissions for B.Com. Honours in this list. We had more admissions for the same in the third list. Even Economics witnessed withdrawals.”

Meanwhile, before the commencement of the new session, some colleges have started with the orientation programme from Monday in order to welcome the freshers. “This is being done not only to introduce them to the administration and subject teachers but also to provide them information regarding their course schedule of the whole year, the classrooms as well as the history of the college. Along with the DU programme guidelines, students will also be given information about the anti-ragging campaign,” said a university official.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce and Maharaja Agrasen conducted the orientation programme on Monday, while Bharti College will continue the orientation till Tuesday. Ramjas College will welcome the freshers through orientation programme on Wednesday.
