As the juvenile convicted for the “Nirbhaya” gangrape and murder is set to be free on December 15, the government is exploring ways to prevent him from joining militancy after it was found that he was allegedly being radicalised by a fellow Kashmiri inmate. The issue has been taken up by the government which is on its toes after an inquiry by the security agencies found that the juvenile was being brain washed and motivated at the Juvenile Welfare Home to join jihad by a fellow Kashmiri inmate, who was apprehended for the 2011 Delhi high court blast, security sources said.

The juvenile, one of the convicts for the December 16, 2012 “Nirbhaya” incident, was initially lodged in Juvenile Welfare Home, Kingsway Camp, Delhi, during 2012. He was later transferred to Juvenile Welfare Home, Majnu Ka Tila, after few months without any specific reason being cited, where the boy from Jammu and Kashmir was already lodged. It was claimed by the agencies that being in close proximity, the juvenile, who was allegedly involved in the high court blast case, was brain-washing and motivating the “Nirbhaya” case convict to join jihad in Kashmir after his scheduled release from juvenile home on December 15, 2015.

It is also learnt that the boy is scared of returning to his village in Uttar Pradesh after his sentence comes to an end as he fears for his life owing to the repurcussions of his horrific crime. Sources said that counselling of the juvenile has already been started after separating him from the other boy.

Ways are also being explored how to prevent the juvenile from joining extremism, the sources said.
