DDCA row: BJP activists storm Assembly complex

Hundreds of Delhi BJP activists stormed into the Delhi Assembly complex on Tuesday just before the House met for a special session, accusing the AAP government of trying to rake up the Delhi District

Hundreds of Delhi BJP activists stormed into the Delhi Assembly complex on Tuesday just before the House met for a special session, accusing the AAP government of trying to rake up the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) issue to suppress the charges faced by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s principal secretary Rajendra Kumar.

The Delhi government had convened a special session of the Assembly to discuss alleged irregularities in DDCA and the last week’s CBI raid.

Raising slogans against the AAP government and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP workers marched to the entrance of the Assembly where they were stopped by security personnel. Later, they were detained by the police.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijender Gupta said the protest was a mark of “anger” of the people against the AAP government’s “unconstitutional” ways and use of the House for “political vendetta” instead of deliberating issues of development and public interest.

“The special session for discussing the CBI raid at the office of the principal secretary of the Delhi government also showed that the government is promoting corruption and siding with corrupt officials,” added Mr Gupta.

“The protest led by Delhi BJP general secretaries Ashish Sood and Rekha Gupta was aimed at exposing the Kejriwal government for saving its corrupt official by raising the DDCA issue in Vidhan Sabha,” said Delhi BJP media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor. The detained BJP workers were taken to the office of the operation cell of the Delhi police near Daulat Ram College. “The BJP condemns the efforts of the Kejriwal government to divert public focus from the corruption stories of the chief minister’s principal secretary Rajendra Kumar by raising frivolous issues with no public connect,” said Mr Sood.
