In a bid to provide justice to the victims, the Delhi Commission for Women on Thursday constituted an inquiry panel to investigate the case of 13 girls who were trafficked from G.B. Road to Meerut Kabari Bazaar red-light area. These girls were rescued on September 1 by an NGO, Shakti Vahini, which is a partner NGO of DCW Rape Crisis Cell and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Meerut police.
The Commission said that it was found during the investigation that these girls were first trafficked to G.B. Road in Delhi and then later they were taken to Meerut red-light area. Officials said that the committee will probe the operators behind the trafficking of these girls and will work in close co-ordination with the Meerut police, which is handling the case and has questioned some suspects in this regard.
The DCW will be recording the statements of the girl and will try and understand what they underwent in Delhi. The Committee has been set under the chairpersonship of a member of the Commission, Sarika Chaudhary, and will consist of staff of AHTU of the commission and a representative of Shakti Vahini.
The DCW is presently also enquiring into the owners of the brothels of G.B. Road and has already held three meetings in this regard with the police, MCD and the Delhi government. “The operators first trafficked the girls to G.B. Road and then sent them to Meerut as the police presence and action increased in the area. The Commission will find out the route which was taken to traffic these girls, which can help nab those behind the act,” an official said.
