An accused in the Dadri lynching case died in a Delhi hospital on Tuesday evening due to a suspected case of chikangunya.
The deceased, Ravin Siso-dia alias Robin (22), was arrested on charges of murder and assault and was lodged in the Greater Noi-da jail since last one year.
“The platelets count of the patient was very low and sugar level was very high. Symptoms were related to either chikangunya or dengue. Blood samples were sent for tests, reports of which are still awaited,” said a senior doctor at Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Narayan Hospital.
His family alleged that he was not well for the last four days but the jail administration did not take the matter seriously.
“On Monday, the jail administration took him to a local hospital in Greater Noida where the doctors suspected that he was inf-ected with dengue. Howev-er, instead of admitting him in the hospital, the police took him back to jail and gave him medicines. On Tuesday evening, his health deteriorated and he was rushed to LNJP Hospital in Delhi where he died,” said Hari Om Singh, husband of village pradhan Kaushalya Devi.
Ravin and 17 other youth were arrested for allegedly lynching Mohammad Ikhlaq (55) and grievously injuring his son Danish over allegations of slaughtering a cow and storing its meat for consumption on September 28, 2015.
“We have received information about his death due to some mosquito borne disease,” said Dharmendra Singh, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar.
Meanwhile, doctors in LNJP said in their preliminary report that the cause of death was kidney failure and problem in functioning of respiratory organs. “We are conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter. The final report will be out by Wednesday afternoon after the post-mortem is done,” said a doctor of LNJP Hospital.
