CYSS holds stir, slams DU seminar over temple

The Aam Aadmi Party’s students’ wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) on Friday protested against the Delhi University’s decision to allow a seminar on Ram Temple.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s students’ wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) on Friday protested against the Delhi University’s decision to allow a seminar on Ram Temple.

The CYSS claimed that Arundhati Vashishtha Anusandhan Peeth (AVAP), the research organisation of the right-wing VHP, is organising a two-day seminar in the university to mobilise public opinion for the controversial Ram temple in Ayodhya.

A delegation of CYSS Delhi state team met the university’s proctor and the dean of students’ welfare, demanding an immediate cancellation of the booking. The officials expressed their inability to cancel the booking at such a short notice. The university officials should have the knowledge of the subject matter of discussion before giving a venue to any organisation, the team said.

”Allowing these kind of institutions to propagate their communal propaganda could create tensions in and around the campus. The educational institutions should be places for secular education rather than divisive politics,” said CYSS Delhi spokesperson Anmol Panwar.

He warned the CYSS will continue the protest on Saturday at Art Faculty and will also resist such a move by the university in the future. The two-day seminar, titled “Shri Ram Janma Bhoomi Temple: Emerging Scenario,” that is beginning on Saturday is being organised at DU’s Arts Faculty by AVAP, a research organisation founded by late VHP leader Ashok Singhal.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who is the chairman of the AVAP, is scheduled to deliver the inaugural address at the seminar which will see historians, archaeologists and experts discussing various topics, including “Lord Ram’s character and values”.
