Criminal held for murdering rival

The Delhi police arrested a dreaded criminal on Wed-nesday from Sant Nagar in Outer Delhi’s Burari area for the murder of cable operator Devender Rathi because of their rivalry over cable TV business.

Deputy commissioner of police (outer district) Vikramjit Singh said the accused has been identified as Deepak Dabas, a member of the Ajay Barwala gang.

“On 29 January this year, Dabas along with his accomplices Ashish, Pardeep and Sunil had shot Rathi to death in Begumpur and all of the accused were arrested a month later. However, Dabas had escaped from judicial custody on April 11 while being escorted to a court at Kharkhoda in Sonepat,” said Mr Singh.

After his escape, Dabas committed many other heinous crimes of murder, armed robbery, snatching and attempt to murder.

On June 20, Dabas along with his accomplice Ajay and two other persons had come prepared had planned to kill Manjeet Kumar, brother-in-law of Devender Rathi, because of an old rivalry. They had planned to kill Manjeet in full public view.

“However, Manjeet managed to escape narrowly. Immediately after the incident, the motorcycle of the accused did not start and in an attempt to escape, they opened fire at another biker with an intention to rob his motorcycle for their escape,” said the officer.
