Delhi court extends custody of professor SAR Geelani till March 16
A Delhi court on Thursday extended till March 16 the judicial custody of former Delhi University professor S.A.R. Geelani, arrested on sedition charges. Mr Geelani was produced before the court after the expiry of his judicial custody. The hearing was conducted at an undisclosed location due to security concerns. Mr Geelani was earlier denied bail by the court after the Delhi police said he could tamper with the evidence.
On February 10, during an event at the Press Club, a group allegedly shouted slogans hailing Afzal Guru. The Delhi police has registered a case against Mr Geelani and other unnamed persons under Sections 124A (sedition), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC in this respect at the Parliament police station. Mr Geelani was called by the Delhi police at the Parliament police station where he was questioned for several hours and later arrested.
Mr Geelani has said that the police has no evidence against him and he was being framed in a false case. However, the Delhi police claims to have enough evidence against him.
