Court to CBI: Give cash back to Rajendra Kumar

A CBI court on Monday said that the laptop and iPad belonging to principal secretary of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Mr Rajendra Kumar, who is facing a corruption case, cannot be released as it were sent to CFSL, Hyderabad, for forensic examination. The court said that only the cash seized by the CBI can be returned to Mr Kumar.

The court has granted Mr Kumar liberty to move a fresh plea later when his laptop and iPad will be brought here after the examination.

The court has directed the probe agency to return the cash amount of Rs 2.39 lakh, which was seized during the December raid, and asked Mr Kumar to furnish a surety bond.

Mr Kumar through his counsel had moved a plea before the court seeking the release of his laptop, iPad and other materials that were seized by the CBI during the raid at his office. The court had asked the probe agency to file a written reply on his plea. The CBI in its reply had said that it could return the cash but was helpless to release the iPad and laptop as it were sent to the CFSL, Hyderabad, for the forensic examination.

Mr Kumar, in his plea, had sought the return of his articles as investigation was over and the items will be of no use to the probe agency. He had also said that the agency could keep the back-up of data stored in the laptop and iPad but release the articles as well as the seized cash.
