Two days after a 16-year-old girl was reported missing from her residence in southeast Delhi’s Greater Kailash I area, she was rescued on Tuesday by the police from Bhatinda in Punjab with the help of a good Samaritan.
The girl allegedly fled her house on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday after a fight with one of her siblings, said a police official.
The girl’s father on Monday went to the Greater Kailash police station and reported that his daughter was missing. He told the police that she suspectedly left the house the previous night when all in the family were asleep.
A case was registered immediately as the girl was a minor and her photographs were shared on a common forum with the police in other states. However, the police was clueless until the girl’s father received a call from an unknown number around 1 am on Tuesday, said the official.
But there could be no conversation as the call dropped abruptly. The girl’s father immediately rang up the station house officer (SHO) of Greater Kailash police station and informed him about the phone call.
When the police called back, a man named Sahil picked up. He told the police that a girl, who he met at Bhatinda railway station, had borrowed his phone. But he could not see her anywhere near as he had already boarded a train which was about to depart in a few minutes, said the official.
The police persuaded the man to leave the train, requesting him to find out the girl after communicating the whole matter, and the man agreed.
He soon found the girl sitting at a secluded corner in a platform and called up the SHO of Greater Kailash police station, who instructed him to escort her to the nearest railway police post. In no time, railway police officials there were intimated about the matter too, said the official.
By 2.30 am, railway police officials at Bhatinda informed police here that the minor was safe and in their custody. on Tuesday, a Delhi police team rushed to Bhatinda and the girl was brought back, said the official.
The 16-year-old, who has two sisters and a brother, has been sent home and Sahil, the good Samaritan, will be rewarded, the police added.
