A day after three members of a family committed suicide over the loss of a young son who was pursuing MBBS in Russia, the police on Saturday issued a notice to Alok Sinha, accused of taking money from the family for admission of the youth, Bhagwan Das, in a private medical college in India, asking him to join the probe.
Bhagwan Das, his wife and daughter consumed “salphas” at their house in Jafarpur Kalan on Friday. In a suicide note Das had accused two men, Alok Sinha and Nasim, of cheating him of Rs 35 lakh by promising admission of his son in a private medical college, which did not materialise.
The bodies of Bhagwan Das, his wife Sharda and daughter Sunita were handed to their relatives after post-mortem examination, said a senior police officer. A case of abetment to suicide and cheating was registered against Alok Sinha and Naseem on the basis of Bhagwan Das’s suicide note.
A police team raided Alok Sinha’s residence in Ghaziabad, but he was not there. His wife told police that he was outstation due to some work and claimed that her husband had returned Rs 12.5 lakh to Bhagwan Das and had also promised to pay the balance by September 15.
The police is also trying to trace Nasim, but there was not enough information available on him, said the officer.
The family of Bhagwan Das committed suicide as they were depressed over the loss of their son Kuldeep. Bhagwan Das had also mentioned in his suicide note that his son Kuldeep was “worried” as the duo had failed to return the money despite repeated assurances.
Kuldeep, 23, who was a first-year MBBS student in Russia had committed suicide on August 19 while he had come to India on a vacation. His body was found in the bathroom with froth coming out of his mouth. His viscera was sent for forensic test and its report was awaited by the police.
