More than 75,000 tweets with #JusticeForDrNara-ng was trending on Twitter on Saturday. Similar posts were doing the rounds on Facebook with #DrPankaj-Lynched.

To counter rumour mongering on social media about the murder that was disguised as a communal incident by unverified handlers on social media, the Delhi police said that no communal angle has been found in the murder investigation. The accused belong to both the communities and the police has taken strict action against them.

“We request people not to rely on unverified sources that spreading hatred. Many people are spreading rumours about the murder and trying to create communal hatred. It was a murder and the matter is under investigation,” said a senior police official.

“All the accused are from UP,” joint commissioner of police Deependra Pathak said, reacting to tweets th-at Pankaj was killed beca-use he and his son were celebrating India’s T20 win against Bangladesh.
