A Delhi police head constable deployed for Union minister Uma Bharti’s security allegedly shot himself at her official Akbar Road residence here late on Sunday night.
The incident took place around 10.30 pm, following which police teams were rushed to the residence of Ms Bharti, the Union minister for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation.
The head constable, identified as Brijpal of the Delhi police’s security unit, was rushed to the nearest hospital, but was declared dead on arrival, a senior police officer said, adding that the reason why he took the extreme step could not be ascertained as yet. The exact sequence of events or what prompted Brijpal to take the alleged step is not clear. A fellow policeman saw him using his service revolver to shoot himself and raised an alarm. Soon, other security personnel reached there and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.
The head constable allegedly shot himself with his official gun that was recovered from the spot.
