Cop held for extortion, blackmail
The city police arrested an assistant sub-inspector posted at Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri police station along with three other persons on Wednesday for blackmailing and extorting money from businessmen using a honey trap.
The accused assistant sub-inspector, Subhash Chandra, and other accused Lalit Kumar, Tinku and Azam Khan were arrested from Rani Bagh in South Rohini.
The assistant sub-inspector, who was the mastermind of the gang, targeted rich businessmen, offered them beautiful women along with a reasonable flat. When a businessman fell for the honey trap, the accused, including the assistant sub-inspector, made videos of these businessmen and then blackmailed them that if they did not pay money, their indecent videos would be released on social media websites.
According to the police, a businessman requesting anonymity approached the local police with a complaint that he was being harassed by an assistant sub-inspector. He told the police that the ASI had trapped him by offering lucrative deals. The businessman paid the money and took the deal. Few days later, he started getting calls from the accused that they (accused) have made scandalous videos of him. If the victim did not pay the cash, his videos will be made viral. Frightened, he approached the police.
“A police team was formed to investigate the case and nab the extortionists. All of the accused were nabbed from a hotel in South Rohini area,” said a senior police official.
During sustained interrogation, the accused, including Subhash Chandra, revealed their modus operandi. Talking about how they operated, one of the accused told cops that their prime target were wealthy businessmen.
After a businessman accepted their offer of a woman and booking of a flat at a “reasonably fair price,” the accused carried out their plan and videographed the entire incident and later blackmailed the concerned businessman till they were forced to pay hefty amounts of money.
