A Delhi court on Saturday recorded the statement of the complainant in connection with a criminal defamation case lodged against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly insulting the Indian flag.

The complainant Ashish Sharma told the court that he was being targeted by a group of people who were forcing him to withdraw the complaint. “Unknown persons tried to kill me near my house. I was warned that if I don’t stop complaining, I will be dead soon. I was beaten up with sticks. I don’t know how long I will live, but I will do my best to respect mother India,” he told the court in his statement.
He then told the court that he lived abroad and had come to India to file a complaint against Mr Modi for allegedly insulting the national flag.
“On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Mr Modi could be seen cleaning his face, nose and sweat from his body with the national flag. I am here to seek justice to honour the national flag of my mother India, who has been insulted worldwide. Mr Modi insulted the national flag more than 20 times. Mr Modi did this on many occasions when he was the PM and when he was went to take oath in front of the President,” the complainant said in his testimony.
When the judge asked him what evidence he had, Mr Sharma placed a few photographs before the court. The judge then asked if he had clicked the pictures to which he replied that he had collected the pictures from the portal of different news organisations. The complainant also furnished a list of seven media house as his witness and urged the court to summon all the media houses. The court has now posted the matter for the next date of hearing to conclude pre-evidence recording.
