CNG Stickers: Government limits sale to 1 station

The Delhi government on Tuesday claimed that the odd-even scheme was smoothly implemented on its fourth day.

The Delhi government on Tuesday claimed that the odd-even scheme was smoothly implemented on its fourth day. Transport minister Gopal Rai said that after reports that CNG stickers were being sold to non-CNG vehicles, these would now only be available at the IGL gas station at CGO Complex from Wednesday.

The CNG stickers were being distributed from 95 CNG stations in Delhi and another 19 stations in NCR. These will stop distribution from 6 am on Wednesday and only CNG station at CGO Complex on Lodhi Road will distribute the stickers round the clock till January 15, he said.

IGL director V. Nagarajan said that proper arrangements will be made at the CGO Complex CNG station so that people do not face any inconvenience. The Delhi transport minister said that there are about 3.50 lakh registered CNG vehicles and so far, only 3.90 lakh CNG stickers have been distributed in view of the implementation of the odd-even formula.

Mr Rai said that after reports of sale of CNG sticker to non-CNG vehicles, one person named Dipak Sen from Vivek Vihar CNG station was caught and has “admitted” selling a sticker to a petrol vehicle for '2,800. The IGL has registered a case against him at Vivek Vihar police station. The enforcement teams of transport department have also started random checking of vehicles with CNG stickers, he said.

Mentioning car-pooling by the Chief Justice of India, Mr Rai thanked him for supporting the odd even campaign of the Delhi government. “I extend my thanks to the CJI and his colleague for car pooling and supporting the campaign. This is a welcome step which will encourage others to follow the odd-even formula,” he said.

Stating that the transport department is running 7,143 buses, the minister said the department has stopped requesting schools to provide buses. These 7,143 buses will ply on the roads till January 15, Mr Rai said.

The transport department challaned 237 motorists, including 93 cars and 144 autos/taxis. The traffic police challaned 303 motorists for violation of odd-even formula till 3 pm, he said.

Referring to the “controversy” over overcrowding at Rajiv Chowk Metro station on Monday, Mr Rai said that those who circulated “fake” photos on social media realised their fault and it was not a “panic situation”. “I myself went to Rajiv Chowk station on Tuesday and checked the control room data. The data of past five Mondays revealed that on an average, 28,25,979 commute by Metro trains on Mondays. On Monday, 28,19,657 people travelled by the Metro,” he said.
