Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday supported and “admired” Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for “speaking up” against growing intolerance and insecurity in the country.

“Every word that @aamir_khan said is so true. I admire him for speaking up,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted.Accusing the BJP of “silencing” voices of dissent, Mr Kejriwal asked the Centre to take concrete steps to instil sense of security among the people. “BJP shud stop silencing voices thro abuses n threats. Its high time centrl govt took concrete steps 2 instil sense of security amngst people,” he wrote.

The chief minister’s support for the Bollywood actor came as a Delhi resident on Tuesday complained to the police against Aamir Khan for making such comments.

The complainant, a resident of east Delhi’s Vasundhra Enclave area, told the police in his complaint, addressed to the station house officer of the New Ashok Nagar, that he “as a citizen of this country feels that the celebrities should think before speaking.”

“We have received the complaint and are looking into it. Further action will follow in accordance with law,” A senior police officer said.

Aamir Khan had during an event on Monday said that insecurity and fear was seeping deep within the society. The complainant told the police that the actor should clarify which “society” he was talking about. “I also live in this society and I do not feel insecure and scared in my country. Aamir Khan should not have mentioned it in a general way,” said the complainant.
