Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has again written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to allow deputation of former AIIMS chief vigilance officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi as his OSD in “larger public interest.” Mr Kejriwal also wrote he was surprised that his request was rejected by the Centre that had never properly utilised the bureaucrat’s services.
Stressing that Mr Chaturvedi’s deputation to the AAP government was for the “welfare of Delhi,” Mr Kejriwal wrote that as per DoPT instructions, the criteria of cooling-off period was to be exempted for an official to be appointed as personal staff.
Mr Kejriwal had first made the request to the Centre in February last year for posting of Mr Chaturvedi as his OSD. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet had recently declined the proposal for inter-cadre deputation of Mr Chaturvedi from Uttarakhand to the GNCT of Delhi, saying he had not completed the mandatory cooling-off period of three years.
In a letter dated July 3, Mr Kejriwal wrote, “It has been a settled practice of our democratic polity that whenever an officer is required as personal staff by any CM or minister, of any government, the same is deputed accordingly, irrespective of political differences.”
