CM aide moves court for laptop, iPad return
Rajender Kumar, the principal secretary of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal who is facing investigation in connection with a corruption case lodged against him by the CBI, had moved a plea before the court seeking the release of his laptop and iPad and cash that was seized by the probe agency during the course of investigation. Mr Kumar said that the probe agency has completed the investigation and the seized material belonging to him was of no use to the probe agency, so the CBI should return his belongings.
The court after hearing his argument fixed April 18 as the next date of hearing. The court has asked the CBI to file a reply on Mr Kumar’s plea before the next date of hearing. Special CBI judge Ajay Kumar Jain, who was hearing the argument, was told by the CBI prosecutor that the investigation official was unwell and hence they needed more time.
Mr Kumar, in his application, said the agency can keep the back-up of the data stored in the laptop and iPad with them, but should release the articles as well as the seized cash. On December 15, the CBI had raided the office of Mr Kumar, close to the chief minister’s office here, in connection with the case. According to the CBI, “Rajender Kumar had played an active role in the process of promising and facilitating award of tender to a pre determined party i.e., M/s Endeavour Systems Pvt Ltd, due to extraneous considerations and devoid of public interest which shows clear element of abuse of official position and criminal conspiracy among the accused persons including the Directors of the present applicant company.”
The CBI had registered the case against Mr Kumar and others on the allegations against the officer that he had abused his official position by favouring the firm in the last few years in getting tenders from the Delhi government departments.
Mr Kumar has been booked under Section 120-B of IPC.
