Cloth merchant shot at, robbed of Rs 20 lakh in East Delhi
A cloth merchant was shot at and robbed of Rs 20 lakh by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the police, the incident took place when the victim, identified as Hitesh, was on his way to Noida to meet someone. “As soon as his car reached Shakarpur chungi, two men on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle,” said a senior police officer, adding, “They forced Hitesh to come out of the car and asked him to hand over the bag.”
When Hitesh resisted, the assailants whipped out a pistol and shot him, before escaping from the spot, the police said. Passersby made a PCR call after which Hitesh was rushed to Max Hospital in I.P. Extension, where his condition is said to be stable.
A case of attempt to murder and robbery has been filed at the Shakarpur police station and further investigations are on. Hitesh, who runs cloth business, stays with his family in Krishna Nagar locality of east Delhi.
Investigating officials said that they suspect the involvement of an insider in the incident.
“We have detained a few persons in connection with the case and are questioning others in connection with the matter,” said the police officer.
