City lawyers call strike against shifting of court

Litigants will have to suffer as lawyers of all six district courts have decided to go on a strike against the shifting of Patiala House Courts to Rouse Avenue.

Litigants will have to suffer as lawyers of all six district courts have decided to go on a strike against the shifting of Patiala House Courts to Rouse Avenue.

Neeeraj, the secretary of New Delhi Bar Association, said that the new court building that is being built at Deen Dyal Updhyay Marg would be a waste of money in the name of justice at your doorstep. He went on saying that like BRT, this could prove costly.

“We demand no further bifurcation of district courts. It will save public money,” he said.

The lawyers also said that the new building has no facility like lawyers chambers. They said the new court building is being built for New Delhi district whereas it doesn’t fall within the jurisdiction of New Delhi. The proposed court complex falls in the jurisdiction of I.P. Estate Police Station of Central Delhi.

“Party offices of leading political parties such as BJP, Congress and AAP are located on DDU Marg where the new court complex is being built. Crowd of supporters of these political parties and litigants will be gathered everyday at nearby court complex which will lead to huge traffic snarl,” said one of the lawyers.

Mr Neeraj said that it was learnt by the New Delhi Bar Association that the fire department has not issued the necessary clearance to the upcoming court complex. The executives body of the NDBA alleged that it was not taken into confidence and kept in dark regarding the ongoing development of the court complex.
