Chief secretary highlights schemes by AAP government

Delhi chief secretary K.K. Sharma told the delegates of the Third Asian Summit on Smart Cities about people-friendly policies and programmes launched by the Delhi government.

Delhi chief secretary K.K. Sharma told the delegates of the Third Asian Summit on Smart Cities about people-friendly policies and programmes launched by the Delhi government. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was the chief guest on this occasion.

Mr Sharma informed the delegates about the new schemes launched by the Delhi government for the welfare of the people with regard to urban transport, health, increased budget for education and taking the healthcare facilities at the door step of the people, curbing pollution by implementing odd-even formula successfully and by easing the urban transport.

He highlighted the Aam Aadmi Party government’s plan to have double shifts in the government-run schools. “The government has done a lot of work for transforming the education system. It has doubled the education budget for better schooling and education,” a statement from the government said.

He added that in a bid to provide health facilities and better healthcare to the poor and needy, the government has done its best by opening 1,000 mohalla clinics.

He said that 500 such mohalla clinics will be opened by the end of this year, adding that the atmosphere in the Delhi government-run hospitals has improved and changed remarkably.

Mr Sharma said that for availing better urban transport and ensuring better connectivity with the villages and rural populace, the government has planned to add 11,000 new buses. 1,500 buses will soon be added in the fleet for ease and comfortable journey of the people.

The chief secretary informed the delegates that for curbing pollution, the city government introdu-ced the odd-even formula, which received mass support from the people and became successful.
