The Delhi police have chargesheeted AAP MLA Sharad Chauhan and seven others under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC in connection with the suicide case of a woman worker of the ruling party. The court is now likely to refer the matter to the sessions court next week. The crime branch officials have said that they will soon file a supplementary chargesheet in connection with the matter.
The court had on August 11 granted bail to Mr Chauhan noting that the victim did not name him anywhere in her statement.
Apart from Mr Chauhan, the police have chargesheeted seven persons, including Ramesh Bhardwaj (the main accused), Amit Bhardwaj, Rajni Kant, Sanjay, Virender Kumar Mann, Mohan Kumar, and Delhi police ASI Mukhtiyar Singh. All have been charged with abetment to suicide and hatching criminal conspiracy.
Ramesh and Mukhtiyar are currently in judicial custody. They have moved bail pleas before the court for the second time. Earlier, the court had rejected their application. This time they have argued through their counsel that the chargesheet has already been filed and no purpose will be served by keeping them in judicial custody. They also have argued that there were no circumstantial evidences against them. The special public prosecutor (SPP), Rajiv Mohan, opposed their bail pleas. The court will decide on Friday whether to grant them bail.
In June, the victim had lodged a case of molestation against Bhardwaj for allegedly touching her inappropriately with the Northwest Delhi’s Narela police station. Bhardwaj was arrested and was later released on bail by the Delhi police.
A few days later, the victim allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at her home.
She was hospitalised with the LNJP Hospital where she succumbed during the course of treatment on July 19.
