A 27-year-old hearing and speech impaired youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur area on Tuesday night.
The angry residents of the area staged a protest outside the Seelampur Metro station, saying they would not perform the last right of the deceased if the killers were not arrested.
A senior police official said that the deceased, identified as Vinod Kumar, was a local resident of the area. He was reportedly felicitated by former Presi-dent A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
“Vinod’s body bore a bullet injury on his forehead. He used to run a grocery shop in the area. The motive behind the incident is not yet clear. We suspect that he might have been killed following an argument over money,” said the police official.
The deceased is survived by his mother and two sisters. His father died a few years ago. Due to the protest, the area also witnessed a massive traffic jam. The police had to face a lot of trouble in controlling the traffic. Seeing the gravity of the situation, a senior police official reached the crime spot and pacified the people, saying they were conducting raids to arrest the accused behind the incident. The police said that though he was hearing and speech impaired, his mind was sharp. He had been running his shop successfully and was assisted by his mother. The police has registered a case of murder and further investigations are on.
