Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s principal secretary Rajendra Kumar, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with an alleged corruption case, was on Wednesday brought face to face with the four other accused by the investigating agency in an attempt to unravel the conspiracy behind the Rs 50-cr scam.

The five accused are Mr Kumar, a 1989 batch IAS officer of Union Territories cadre; Tarun Sharma, a deputy secretary in Mr Kejriwal’s office; Ashok Kumar, a former Delhi government employee considered a close aide of Mr Kumar; and owners of the controversial private firm, Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Gupta. They were arrested on Monday and were remanded by a court to five-day CBI custody on Tuesday.

Sources said all the accused were also confronted with the evidence collected so far during the course of investigation. Investigating officials claimed they had managed to collect some evidence regarding the financial benefits the accused had managed to get by engaging in alleged corrupt practices in award of the Delhi government contracts to a private firm named Endeavour Systems.

The CBI officials also claimed to have found the money trail that was given to the accused as a bribe.

The Delhi government on Wednesday suspended Mr Rajendra Kumar as, according to rules, an officer is deemed suspended if he is in custody for more than 48 hours.

The CBI had registered a case in this regard in December, alleging that Mr Rajendra Kumar had abused his official position by “favouring a particular firm in the last few years in getting tenders of Delhi government departments.”

The CBI had conducted a raid on Mr Kumar’s office on December 15 at the Delhi Secretariat.
