Bus lane proposal sent to Najeeb Jung again

The Aam Aadmi Party dispensation on Thursday sent its proposal to create dedicated bus lanes after making “minor” changes to lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung for his approval.

The Aam Aadmi Party dispensation on Thursday sent its proposal to create dedicated bus lanes after making “minor” changes to lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung for his approval. The lieutenant-governor had sought a clarification from the Delhi government on the proposal, some three months ago.

A government official said the proposal, advocating a fine of Rs 20,000 on those obstructing plying of buses in the dedicated lanes, has been sent back with some “minor amendments.”

As per the AAP government’s plan, dedicated bus lanes will be created on major roads across the national capital. “After consultations with PWD, the transport department and the law department, the proposal has been sent back to the lieutenant-governor’s office,” the official said.

Sources said that in case the lieutenant-governor turns down the proposal “again,” the Kejriwal government may move court against it as the proposal is being executed as per a Supreme Court order.

The development comes three days after the lieutenant-governor’s office sought the Delhi government review on its app-based bus aggregator policy. The anti-corruption branch has initiated a probe into the issue following a complaint by the Leader of the Opposition, BJP MLA Vijender Gupta.

In March, the city government had alleged that Mr Jung had turned down its proposal to create dedicated bus lanes on the city’s streets and impose of a fine of Rs 2,000 against those violating related rules.

However, the lieutenant-governor’s office had denied the charge, claiming that Mr Jung had only sought a clarification from the Kejriwal government on the issue.
