The dismantling of the controversial 5.8-kilometre-long BRT corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand, which will begin from January 20, is expected to be completed by February. The agencies involved in dismantling the corridor will work during night shifts only to avoid inconvenience to commuters. The PWD has also appointed a consultant to suggest road designing of the entire stretch. The consultant has invited suggestions from local residents and residents’ welfare association about the possible design and alignment of roads after dismantling of the BRT. The dismantling of the corridor —constructed in 2008 at a cost of '190 crore — will entail a further expenditure of Rs 11-12 crore.

Confirming that the dismantling of the BRT corridor will begin from January 20, PWD minister Satyendra Jain said the entire exercise on the stretch would be carried out in two phases. The first phase would consist of removing obstructions, such as dividers, bus stops, etc. The second phase would cost more and take longer as it would include redesigning of junctions.
