BJP: Scam continued during AAP government

A day after the anti-corruption branch registered an FIR against chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his predecessor Sheila Dikshit in the Rs 400-crore DJB tan-ker scam, the Delhi BJP on Tuesday claime

A day after the anti-corruption branch registered an FIR against chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his predecessor Sheila Dikshit in the Rs 400-crore DJB tan-ker scam, the Delhi BJP on Tuesday claimed that irr-egularities continued during the Kejriwal governm-ent. The Delhi BJP also de-manded the money paid to the tanker owners during the Kejriwal government tenure should be rec-over-ed from the ruling AAP.

“The Kejriwal government not only tried to save former chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the DJB water tanker scam, but also permitted work by the same contractors who were working during her regime,” Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said.

Attacking the AAP government for being power hungry, Mr Upadhyay demanded chief minister Kejriwal’s resignation. “In view of the tanker scam, appointment of parliamentary secretaries and premium bus service scheme, chief minister Kejriwal has lost his right to be in power,” he added.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, on whose complaint the ACB registered the FIR, claimed the scam is still going on as the monthly payments to the contractors are being made and the AAP government has not taken any action against any official or to the contractors.

“Contracts to the three companies were given in 2012 by the previous government at very high rates in utter disregard for the rules. Under the terms of the contract, the Delhi Jal Board had agreed to pay Rs 7 crore per month to these companies. Sources reveal that out of this payment, these companies were paying huge sums earlier to the Congress government and now the AAP government. The government treasury lost '400 crore as a result of this contract,” claimed Mr Gupta.

The BJP MLA demanded that the payments made to the contractors during the Kejriwal government be realised from the AAP.

“The (AAP) government sat on the fact-finding committee report for 11 months after it had been submitted in July 2015. The scam is continuing as no official or contractor has been punished and the monthly payments for supply of tanker water is going on,” Mr Gupta said.

The Delhi BJP asked Mr Kejriwal to reveal the reason for suppressing the report for 11 months, the deal between the CM and the three water tanker co-mpanies, how much mon-ey were these companies paid after the AAP government came to power and how much money did the treasury lose.

“People of Delhi want to know that whether the chief minister himself will surrender before the ACB,” said Mr Upadhyay.
