BJP says mohalla clinics proving fatal for patients

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Wednesday alleged that the mohalla clinics of the AAP government were proving to be fatal for the patients.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Wednesday alleged that the mohalla clinics of the AAP government were proving to be fatal for the patients. He claimed that a majority of these clinics had been opened to mislead people and to gain cheap popularity as the same were being run by doctors who are irresponsible, inexperienced and were having substandard labs.

Raising questions over the quality of services at these clinics, Mr Gupta cla-imed that a pregnant wom-an was tested positive for Thalassemia at one such clinic, but the results were later found negative at a private pathology laboratory.

“The pregnant woman, Mausam Kumari, visited the mohalla clinic at F Block in Rohini along with her husband, Mukesh, on April 24 where tests were done. The report revealed that she had Thalassemia. The tests were then done at a private pathology laboratory where it was found that she was not suffering from the disease. The doctor at the laboratory said that the mohalla clinic lab report was incorrect and technically wrong,” said Mr Gupta.

The woman’s husband claimed that he had lodged a complaint with the Delhi health minister and officials of the department, but no action has been taken.

“There were also some other cases of negligence and wrong reports at these clinics, but people are not coming out with their complaints,” added Mr Gupta. He alleged that at a mohalla clinic in Nihal Vihar a person was transfused with the wrong blood group due to an incorrect blood group test report, endangering the life of that person. He appealed to the people to reveal cases of wrong treatment and tests so as to make others aware of it.

“The government should stop playing with the lives of people with negligent and substandard health services at these clinics and labs,” he added, demanding a probe into the case of Mausam Kumari and other such incidents.

The Delhi government, working on ‘neighbourhood clinic’ concept, has opened around 100 mohalla clinics in different parts of the national capital. It aims to increase the number of these clinics to 1,000 by the end of this year.
