BJP to raise water booth scam with Lokayukta

Just a day after the appointment of the Lokayukta in the city, the BJP has announced that it raise the issue of water booth scam before the Lokayukta.

Just a day after the appointment of the Lokayukta in the city, the BJP has announced that it raise the issue of water booth scam before the Lokayukta.

Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta on Friday expressed confidence that with the appointment of the Lokayukta, judicious control over the “arbitrary and corrupt” practices of the Kejriwal government would come into force.

“During the nine months of the Kejriwal power, the government did not pay any heed to reasonable objections raised by the BJP in the interest of laid down rules, regulations and legal provisions. As a result of its arbitrariness, it gave a number of contracts by throwing the laid-down procedures to wind. Now, the BJP will take up these matters before Lokayukta,” Mr Gupta said.

According to seniors Delhi BJP leaders, the party will take up the matter of installation of RO water booths in 29 unauthorised colonies at 500 points by privatising the sale of potable water. “The contract has been given for supply of 20 litres of water in these colonies for '5. All this has been done in violation of financial and contract rules of the Govt. of India. It has resulted in loss of crore of rupees to the Delhi government exchequer,” a party official informed.

Mr Gupta alleged that the Delhi government entrusted privatisation of water distribution to a private firm. According to the rules, it is essential that a minimum of three companies should participate in the tendering procedure, but in this case the work was entrusted to a single contractor, he said. “It is strange coincidence that both the consultant and tenderer are from the same city i.e. Hyderabad. The consultant was appointed without calling tenders.
