Intensifying its attack on the AAP government over the Rs 400-crore Delhi Jal Board tanker scam, the Delhi BJP will approach President Pranab Mukherjee, demanding an investigation by the CBI into working of the utility service provider and the scam. The BJP state unit officer-bearers and party candidates for the last Assembly polls were also detained during their protest outside the Delhi Assembly on the same issue.
Delhi BJP general secretaries Ashish Sood and Rekha Gupta alleged the DJB had become a centre of corruption and like the Sheila Diskhit government, the Kejriwal regime too was taking its share in corruption and giving silent patronage to nefarious nexus of officials and contractors.
”The Kejriwal government came to power by pretending to be anti-corruption crusaders. The hollowness of their intention to fight corruption got exposed in December 2013 itself when Mr Kejriwal formed the government with the Congress support, but the way the chief minister is now sitting on the report of the fact-finding committee formed by his own minister Kapil Mishra, who had recommended action against the culprits of the Rs 400-crore scam, it is clear he is saving the culprits. Perhaps the chief minister has some self-interest in suppressing this scam,” said Mr Sood.
He announced that the Delhi BJP would run a public awareness campaign to apprise people about the Rs 400-crore scam along with a campaign to obtain their signatures on its petition.
“Through this signature campaign, the Delhi BJP will apprise and mobilise public opinion in support of a CBI inquiry into this water tanker scam,” added Mr Sood.
