BJP demand CM, Rai resignations

After the Delhi government suspended three transport department official for alleged irregularities in distribution of auto permits, the Delhi BJP has demanded resignation of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and city transport minister Gopal Rai.

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said that Arvind Kejriwal’s government was completely involved in corruption and it has increased so much that the AAP government is playing fraud with its own supporters — the auto drivers of the city.

“Previously, corruption was committed through the touts in transport department, but now their place has been taken over by the volunteers and MLAs of AAP. Due to bungling in the department, it has been reported that most of the permits have been grabbed by the auto mafia and the poor auto drivers have not been issued permits,” alleged Mr Updhyay.

The Delhi BJP alleged that after the announcement of 10,000 permits by the Kejriwal government on the pretext of controlling pollution in the national capital, 17,000 applications were received, which led to corruption in the process of distribution.

“There are many irregularities in the distribution of permits. In place of the established policy of computerised draw and first-come-first-serve basis, the volunteers of the ruling party and some corrupt officers in transport department connived to distribute permits among themselves. It has also been reported that in this process, money was given and taken illegally,” added Mr Upadhyay.

The BJP claimed that after sample-checking of the list of 10,000 applicants by an active BJP worker, Anand Trivedi, it has been found that the names and addresses of many applicants have been forged, especially from the Karawal Nagar and Ghonda Assembly constituencies.

Mr Upadhyay has requested lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung to ask for a report from the transport department and issue orders to the anti-corruption branch to investigate the process of distribution of permits.
