BJP crosses swords with AAP over demolition
The Delhi BJP on Wednesday demanded that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal should apologise for demolition action at Gurdwara Sheeshganj and Gauri Shankar Mandir complexes in Chandni Chowk. The party alleged, by making the court order an alibi, the AAP government on Wednesday forced civic authorities to carry out demolitions to create a vicious atmosphere against the BJP in Punjab.
The party claimed that after its state unit chief Satish Upadhyay’s intervention, the demolition work started by PWD officers at Gurdwara Sheeshganj Sahib, Gauri Shankar Mandir and other religious places was stopped on Wednesday.
According to the Delhi BJP, on the directions of the Delhi government that has the jurisdiction over the Chandni Chowk main road, a team of municipal corporation and police arrived for demolition outside these religious places. “On opposition by the Sikh community and local citizens, Mr Upadhyay talked to the North Delhi municipal commissioner and requested him not to involve the corporation in the demolition work and after that the squad went back,” the BJP said. Mr Upadhyay said it was a conspiracy by the government and he should apologise for the demolition action in the premises of Gurdwara Sheeshganj Sahib and Gauri Shankar Mandir.
