A 25-year-old Delhi police constable suffered a bullet injury when a bike-borne snatcher tried to evade checking at the Geeta Colony flyover near Rajghat in Central Delhi on Saturday afternoon. The injured constable, identified as Bheemaram, suffered injury on the palm of his right hand.

According to the senior police officers, the incident took place at around 1 pm at the Geeta Colony flyover where the constable was posted along with other officials.

Meanwhile, based on a tip-off that a chain snatcher will be crossing the Geeta Colony-ITO flyover, checking was increased in the area.

“While they were checking vehicles, three persons riding a motorcycle were asked to slow down. However, since all the three were small time criminals, one of them, identified as Manoj, shot Bheemaram. Fellow police constables tried to stop the trio from speeding off and managed to apprehend Manoj,” said a senior police officer of the Central district.

Bheemaram was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. He was discharged after trea-tment, the police said.
