Aspiring model, driver arrested for ATM fraud
The police has arrested an aspiring model and her associate for allegedly resorting to ATM frauds to get her portfolio clicked by a famous Mumbai-based fashion photographer from Mukherjee Nagar area in Northwest Delhi on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old accused girl and her associate Shakil Malik (29), who worked as a driver for her, were arrested after a woman they had cheated a few days ago identified them, said Vijay Singh, DCP (Northwest).
The girl had participated in various local events in North Indian cities as well as in Mumbai but she wanted a photo-shoot for her portfolio by a professional photographer. She had approached a famous professional fashion photographer from Mumbai to do her portfolio who asked for Rs 2.5 lakh from her as fees, said the officer.
The accused girl was caught in a case in which she cheated a woman by swapping her ATM card with another card at an ATM booth and later withdrawn Rs 25,000 from her account.
Accidentally, the woman saw her near the same ATM booth in Indira Vihar in Mukherji Nagar and informed the police who caught the duo.
The accused were allegedly involved in five cases of ATM frauds where they swapped ATM cards of people with some other cards and later withdrew money from their accounts. Seven ATM cards of different banks and Rs 14,000 cash was recovered from them, said the officer.
